How to make business tax payments online
BUSINESS TAXPAYERS
Federal tax payments for balances due can be made online via the IRS EFTPS. You will need to enroll before you can begin using this free tool.
On the next screen, click the box for “Make a Payment.”
For IRS Balance Due payments, select:
Reason for Payment: “Balance Due”
Apply Payment To: “Income Tax – Form 1120”
Tax Period: Select the applicable tax year.
For IRS Extension payments, select:
Reason for Payment: “Extension”
Apply Payment To: “7004 (e.g., for Form 1120)”
Tax Period: Select the applicable tax year.
For IRS Estimated Tax payments, select:
Reason for Payment: “Estimated Tax”
Apply Payment To: “1120-ES”
Tax Period: Select the applicable tax year.
On the next screen, enter the year of your most recently filed tax return as the Tax Year for Verification.
For Filing Status, choose MFJ or MFS if married, or Single or HOH if unmarried.
Enter your personal information (name, address, date of birth, etc.). For married taxpayers, use the SSN and name of the primary taxpayer (the person listed first on the tax return).
Click Continue, and on the following screen, enter your desired bank account information.
Print the confirmation screen and keep it for your records. You can also upload a copy to the portal.
California Tax Payments
California tax payments for balances due can be made online via FTB Web Pay Business:
Select "Use Web Pay Business".
Choose your Entity Type from the dropdown menu.
Enter your state Entity ID (7 or 12 digits only).
Provide your Contact Information.
Select your Entity Type.
Choose the Payment Type. Common types include:
Tax Return Payments
Estimated Tax Payments
Extension Payments
Amended Tax Return Payments
Pass-Through Entity Elective Tax
Select the Applicable Tax Year. This will be indicated by the beginning and ending dates of the applicable tax year (e.g., Jan 1, 20XX – Dec 31, 20XX).
Enter the Payment Amount and Payment Date. For estimated taxes, you can schedule multiple payments with different dates.
Provide your Bank Account Information.
Submit the payment and print/save the confirmation for your records.
Note: The FTB does not accept credit card payments without charging a fee.
